Venezuela holds the Miss Universe crown with Stefania Fernandez

Venezuela made history Sunday night at the Miss Universe crown and held the consecration of Stefania Fernandez, 18, who succeeded a fellow as the most beautiful woman in the world.

In the contest with 83 participants was held in Nassau in the Bahamas, Venezuela won for the second consecutive year the crown was handed to the new monarch by another Venezuela, Dayana Mendoza, elected in 2008 in Vietnam.

"My God, people are impressed, they're all happy. We marked the history, Venezuelans do not get tired," Mendoza said from the Bahamas to the private TV station Venevision, which broadcast the event.

Fernandez, dressed in red dress, did not quite believe that the crown remained in the hands of another Venezuelan. "It is our naturally what distinguishes us," he said when reporters asked him why his country's women won beauty contests.

The new queen gave Venezuela the sixth title in 59 years of history of the competition.

Despite consecutive coronation of Venezuela, the record for the Miss Universe crown remains in the hands of the U.S., with seven and in third place are the women of Puerto Rico, with five.

The weight of Latin American women has been felt in the definition of the competition with two other Latina Ada Cross (23 years) of the Dominican Republic in second place, and Mayra Matos (20 years) of Puerto Rico among the five finalists were completed with the representatives of Australia and Kosovo.

The pageant was held at the Atlantis Resort & Casino on Paradise Island, was televised by Telemundo and NBC and had an estimated audience of one billion people.

The winner receives a cash award, the Miss Universe Organization does not reveal how much reaches.

Also, the sponsors get a set of jewels and precious stones, an entire wardrobe of couture designer’s altra, five-day vacation in the Bahamas for two, and a grant of over $ 100,000 at the Film Academy New York to study acting and film.

Beyond the awards, for most competitors this contest, organized by U.S. billionaire Donald Trump-owned Miss Universe rights-jump aims to stardom in the show, say experts.

"The objectives of a woman seeking to become Miss Universe are the opportunities that arise in the world of entertainment and performance," he told AFP the president of the Miss Latin America Organization, Acirema Alayeto, which has offices in Miami.

The preliminary competitions included a display of women candidates in party dresses and typical clothing of countries, and a passage in swimsuits.

In addition to these tests the applicants were interviewed by the jury of 12 members, actors, TV producers, singers, photographers, fashion critics, among them the famous Argentina model Valeria Mazza.

The representative of China was awarded the "Friendship", chosen by their peers, while an open vote by elected Internet Thailand sent the most photogenic. The Panamanian Diana Broce was awarded for the best national costume.

Online voting at the site of Miss Universe, had been considered a favorite to win the crown on the representative of Indonesia, Zivanna Letisha Siregar, followed by the competitors from Brazil, Thailand, Guatemala and Ecuador. None of them were in the final group selected.

The group of 10 finalists was completed with the sent of the Czech Republic, Switzerland, France, South Africa and USA, which made a passage in full dress before, to define who would be the five women who eventually would dispute the crown.

For three weeks the competitors stay toured the Bahamas archipelago, especially visited New Providence, Grand Bahama, Bimini, Exuma, Eleuthera and Abaco.
